With a fall wind in the air, the Big Green took to Jamie Kapteyn field to take on the defending 2024 NEPSAC Class A Champions of Worcester Academy. The game was evenly matched with the Big Green holding the advantage of play in the first half. Approaching the halfway mark in the first half, Ryan Rodgers ’27 tracked down a ball from Blythe Gering ’28 that was played wide to a wide open Eva Bramwell ’26 who served in a beautiful long range shot (her go to of the season!) that sailed in the upper corner of back post over the goalkeepers head to give the Big Green the lead, 1-0.
From this point forward until halftime, the Big Green competed hard on both sides of the ball. The pride shown in every 1v1 battle both from an attacking and defensive standpoint were outstanding. Winnie Underwood ’28 made a clutch back-to-bar save to keep Worcester off of the scoresheet.
The Big Green quickly doubled their lead to start the second half when Minjoo Serhant ’27 played a ball wide to Maggie Garbarino ’27 who then drove endline against her defender and cut back her cross to Ryan Rodgers ’27 at the penalty spot. Ryan shot a perfectly placed ball to the far post and past the Worcester goalkeeper to double the Big Green lead.
With their direct play, Worcester was able to notch three goals in the final 25 minutes of the game give them the advantage at the final whistle.
Although the sting of defeat hurts, the growth and the many positives to take away from this game and carry to the next game are impressive. The Doors should be extremely proud of their performance, effort and resilience displayed throughout this game.
A big shout out to goalkeeper Winnie Underwood ’28 and Big Green’s backline of Keira Austen ’26, Magda Curylo ’26, Hazel Patton ’26, Blythe Gering ’27 and Olivia Austen ’27 for their dominant and impressive play throughout the game!
The Big Green are excited to welcome friends and family to campus this weekend for Fall Family Weekend as they take on Exeter this Saturday, October 18 at 2:30pm.
