On Wednesday, the Girls Varsity Soccer traveled down I-91 to take on the Wildcats of Williston Northampton School on the first day of October. In their first game on turf of the season, the Big Green settled in to play quickly and started to control the play with great ball movement and created some dangerous chances. At the half the score remained 0-0. Just over the halfway mark in the second half the Wildcats finished a miss cleared corner kick by the Doors to give them the lead. They quickly capitalized again a few minutes later to double their lead. The Big Green answered on the ensuing possession to cut the lead in half. The play started with Olivia Austen’s ’27 throw in to Ryan Rodgers ’27 who played it back to Eleanor duPont ’26 who found Blair Murray ’27 in the middle of the field. Blair played the ball into Meryl Gilbert ’27 who turned her defender and went 1v1 with the goalkeeper to finish the play with the ball in the back of the net. The Doors continued to press forward, searching for the equalizing goal, but the Wildcats sealed their victory with their third goal of the goal. At the final whistle, the score was 1-3 in favor of the home side. The Big Green will look to build upon their strong effort this game on Saturday against St. Paul’s.
