Soccer (Boys): Junior Varsity vs. Westminster School (10/08/25 3:00 PM)

Event Details

We beat Westminster today 3-0 after being 0-0 at the half. As in previous games, we posed more threats and it took more than a half to find the back of the net. It was a bright and blustery afternoon and Westy, to their credit, was disruptive in the midfield and speedy on the wings, posing some nice counter-attacks. At the half, we committed ourselves to more patience in possession and more shooting. In the second half, we were the more dangerous team again, yet unsuccessful in the final third of the field. About midway through the half, a ball was only partially cleared by Westy to right wingback Jack Zhunio (27) who returned the ball to the box in a high, long arcing zinger. Striker Rabi Diallo (29) tracked it perfectly, gained position, elevated to reach it first, and redirected it with his head into the goal. It was a beautiful connection between two players who had worked hard all game. Rabi had several more chances, including a penalty kick, but the quick Westy keeper foiled him over and over. Rabi pressed on to earn a second goal, a tidy finish on a through-ball from midfielder Oscar Sanford (26). We kept pushing the pace with the score 2-0 and found the net one more time, this time a put-back by left winger Blaze Etienne-Cummings (28) who cleaned up a shot from Ethan Pang (28) after a cross from John Rousou (28). Our defense was stalwart once again who, with keepers Jerry Du (27) and Zach England (29), secured yet another clean sheet. This team has no quit and plays with great poise, thanks largely to the leadership from our seniors. The coaches are eager to push for more growth down the stretch.
