Many DA teams traveled to St. Paul’s on a balmy October Saturday. The BJV soccer team won 3-0 with dominant possession, a few nice finishes, and a stranglehold in the midfield. Right from the opening whistle, we possessed and pressed, leading to several early chances. A nice cross from left-winger Henry Markcrow (28) found Victor Kibuuka (26) in the box. Victor took the ball with a left-footed full volley and struck it pure. It hit the crossbar and soared into the sky, spinning madly. The SPS keeper had trouble tracking the ball in the sun and it spun from his hands and into the goal. 1-0 at halftime. We felt we had the game in hand, but we needed to strike again, which we did early in the second half. Sustained pressure in their half led to a deflected shot from right wingback Jack Zhunio (27) which John Rousou (28) found and finished from inside the six. Soon after, Jack Webb (27), whose vision and control were on display all game long, sent a perfectly weighted through-ball to striker Rabi Diallo (29) on a corner run. Rabi deftly cut back a cross, well away from the keeper, to a streaking midfielder Ethan Pang (27) who slotted the finish into the yawning left part of the net. Jerry Du (27) took over the goalkeeping from there and maintained a clean sheet in tandem with starter Zach England (29). We saw strong play from Julius Rhaus (27) today as well, in his first start of the season. Every player had meaningful minutes in this 3-0 win after which the SPS and DA coaches congratulated both teams for fun, upbeat competition.
