We lost to Hotchkiss in a tight game where we took the lead 1-0 after halftime and conceded twice thereafter. We came out well, despite playing last night and the long bus ride. A light rain drizzled at kickoff and Hotchkiss decided to play us on a sloped and bumpy field that was quite wide. Henry Markcrow (28) hit the crossbar early even as we struggled to possess. The ball was slick and Hotchkiss worked hard to disrupt possession and counter with kicks over the top. The 0-0 halftime score was unsurprising. After half, Michael Hioe (27) sent a corner kick into the box and Ethan Pang (28) reached around a defender to half-volley a laser past the keeper. We kept pressing and and twice as we worked upfield, Hotchkiss was able to send high balls in response and pressure our back tracking defenders. On both goals, keeper Zach England came off his line and did his best to clear but Hotchkiss players were able to touch past and find the net. We played hard to the final whistle but could not manage an equalizer. It was disappointing, but we coaches are proud of the fight, togetherness, and sportsmanship we showed in defeat. We will regroup and be ready for the challenges ahead.
