Soccer (Boys): Junior B vs. Suffield Academy (10/22/25 3:00 PM)

Event Details

On Wednesday, October 22nd, a thoroughly listless quad squad sleepwalked through the return match with Suffield Academy on the lower fields, after winning on the road at Suffield back on September 27th. Despite the lack of energy, the team won 5-1, after a close match early. With the win, Deerfield remain unbeaten at 8W-1D-0L.

Marshall Whalen ’29 was the highlight for Deerfield in the 1st half, scoring two goals and earning (but missing) a penalty kick. In the 4th minute, he headed home a cross to give Deerfield a 1-0 lead. Four minutes later, he was tripped in the box and lined up for a penalty kick, which was unfortunately saved by the keeper. In the 14th minute, he scored his 7th goal of the season and gave Deerfield some breathing room with a 2-0 lead. While there were numerous opportunities to extend the lead, Deerfield were kept off the board for the last 20 minutes of the half and it ended at 2-0.

In the 2nd half, Alastair Ylvisaker ’28 scored a beautiful goal in the 43rd minute, directly from a goal kick from keeper Desmond Drake ’29, to increase the lead to 3. Suffield struck back in the 52nd minute, tucking a long-range shot just under the crossbar to cut the lead back to 2 and keep it too close for comfort. Ylvisaker added an insurance goal in the 66th minute, his 7th of the season, and Briggs Leary ’29 finished the scoring with his first career goal from a penalty kick in the 69th minute for the final 5-1 margin.

Quad squad has their final home game of the season on Saturday, October 25th against Andover – game time is 1:30 pm.
