On Saturday, October 18th, the boys junior B footballers took to the field on Fall Family Weekend against local rival Eaglebrook School. Despite a depleted squad, the team took an early lead and won the game 4-1. With the win, Deerfield raised their record to 7W-1D-0L, with 3 games remaining.
Deerfield continued their recent trend of scoring early and often, with Hunter Henderson ’27 netting his 5th goal of the season in the 6th minute for a 1-0 lead. In the 13th minute, Mac Barry ’29 scored his first career goal for quad squad to double the lead. Ryan Stenzler ’27 followed quickly with his first career goal from the sweeper position in the 15th minute to give the team a solid 3-0 lead. EBS answered immediately, with a goal in the 16th minute to cut the lead to 3-1. After a quick start, Deerfield were held in check for the rest of the half and maintained their 2-goal lead going into half-time. The trend continued in the 2nd half, with Marshall Whalen ’29 putting home a rebound early in the 40th minute for his 5th goal of the season. The 3-goal lead held up for the rest of the game and the final score was 4-1.
Quad squad’s second to last home game will be on October 22, when Suffield Academy visits for a return match at 3 pm.
