Event Details

On Wednesday, October 1st, the boys junior B footballers returned home to the south division on a beautiful, cool afternoon to face the Eagle Hill School. Led by braces from Marshall Whalen ’29 and leading scorer Jack Keller ’26, Deerfield led for the entire match and earned a 7-2 victory. The team remains unbeaten, with a 4W 1D 0L record to date.

Deerfield didn’t waste much time in taking the lead. Harry Mitchell ’27 (3 goals on the season) scored in the 6th minute for a 1-0 lead, followed quickly by the second goal of the season from Hunter Henderson ’27 in the 8th minute to double the margin. Eagle Hill’s defense tightened up for the next 20 minutes and held Deerfield scoreless, including a clearance off the goal line in the 18th minute. Finally, Whalen doubled the lead in the 28th and 35th minutes with his 3rd and 4th goals of the season to stake Deerfield to a 4-0 lead. The goals were sandwiched around a penalty kick miss from Mitchell in the 31st minute. Eagle Hill pulled a goal back late in 1st half injury time to make the score 4-1 at half-time.

Coleman Keller ’28 replaced Desmond Drake ’29 in goal to start the 2nd half, a move that paid off immediately when Drake headed home a free kick from Jack Keller in the 36th minute for one of the highlight goals of the season to make the score 5-1. Eagle Hill quickly retaliated in the 39th minute, to pull back within 3 at 5-2. Keller gave Deerfield some breathing room in the 44th minute with his 6th goal of the season to restore the 4-goal lead. After another long drought, Keller scored again in the 64th minute for the final 7-2 margin.

Quad squad’s next game is October 4th, a return date with the Westminster School on the road in Simsbury, CT at 3 pm.
