Soccer (Boys): Junior A vs. Williston (10/22/25 3:00 PM)

Event Details

Deerfield secured a winning season with a victory over Williston’s JV2 team on a bright, breezy afternoon beneath the peak colors of Mount Tom on Wednesday. On a tight field, DA’s attacking play put constant pressure on the defense, earning numerous corner- and penalty-kick opportunities. At 13′, Vail Brokaw ’27 sent one of his signature well-placed corners into the box, where Charlie Juhas ’29 got a foot on it, flicking it to striker Cole Higgins ’26, who put Deerfield on the board. Williston would score the equalizer from their own corner three minutes later, but from that point on the game belonged to Deerfield. At 21′, rookie Justin Treyz, coming off a strong week, put DA up in a goalmouth scramble following another corner. At 34′, Brokaw converted one of the team’s three penalty kicks on the day, making it 3-1 at the half. Recognizing that anything can happen on a small pitch, especially against a speedy Wildcats side, the team came out of the huddle committed to maintaining their focus and winning the second half. They wasted no time making it 4-1 at 42′, when playmaker PJ Pirsch ’28 delivered a corner to Higgins’s head. One minute later, captain Rich Zhou ’29 saw the space to push forward through the middle and took advantage, getting the ball into the box where Higgins finished. The veteran striker made it four on the day (and 21 on the season) at 55′ with a tap-in after a brilliant cross from Pirsch, who tallied five assists on the day. Left winger Howard Jin ’27 notched his ninth goal of the year off one of those Pirsch assists, which was bookended by the first goals of the year from two Junior A stalwarts. Midfielder Kenan Ozada ’28 fired a shot to the right side of the net off an assist from Higgins at 64′. Concluding the scoring was the first Deerfield goal by senior fullback Joaquim Cavalcante, who sets the bar for commitment to this team. The coaches congratulate him on this well-deserved achievement. With five games remaining, this squad has a chance to record more wins than any Deerfield Thirds team in at least the last decade. But it won’t be easy. The always-tough Andover team comes to town on Saturday for a 1:30 pm match.
