The JV FH team won big against Westminster on this picturesque Fall day at Deerfield. While we were feeling excited to be back on our home field today (and back on turf!) after a stretch of away games, it still took the team a handful of minutes to adapt to the pace of the game. By the second quarter, though, the DA squad found their offensive rhythm. It was in this quarter that we saw the only two goals of the game. The first goal came from captain Ellora Devitre when she converted a textbook give-and-go between her and captain Rose Manning. The second goal, a mere 90 seconds later, started when Cece Salyer blocked a Westminster shot on our defensive goal. Rayner Loos took the loose ball up the right side, dumping it to forward Audrey Steffensen, who then in turn sent it up the right sideline to Ellora Devitre. Ellora then sent a beautiful cross into the circle, which was picked up by Rose Manning and pushed in front of the cage. Shelby Acquavella was waiting on the pads, finishing this miraculous series of coordinated passes with a well-executed lift past the goalie. Wow! While Deerfield only found the back of the cage twice, our offensive pressure was relentless all game. Forwards Ella Waag, Milana Shuman, Audrey Steffensen, and Willa Kaplan left everything they had on the field this afternoon. We’re walking away from today’s game feeling proud of our team’s communication and coordination, on and off the field. We’ll see you all at our Fall Family Weekend game against Taft this Saturday.
