On an unseasonably warm Saturday, the Doors traveled to Concord, NH, to take on the St. Paul’s Pelicans in a 5 kilometer footrace. The Doors emerged victorious in both the varsity and junior varsity races on the strength of outstanding individual efforts up and down the roster. Liam Walker ’27 bravely took the lead from the gun and set the tone for an outstanding individual race that Henry Winn ’27 eventually won with Liam hot on his heels. Quinn Clark ’28 and Leo Friedman ’26 posted terrific individual results that sewed up the points necessary to eke out the team win, with Will Golding ’29 rounding out the scoring 5 for the first time in his Deerfield career. The varsity won with a narrow lead of 28-29. In the junior varsity event, Thijs Wittink ’27, Reid McCoy ’26, Rory Hartblay ’26, Oliver Peruzzi ’26, and Anthony Mariani ’26 all got straight to business and defeated their opponents by outscoring the Pelicans 22 to 36. Looking ahead, next Saturday the Doors will travel to Wallingford, CT to race against the southern Pelicans of Loomis Chafee and the Boars of Choate Rosemary Hall.
