The Boys J.V. Hockey team began their January hockey term with a long road trip to the Salisbury School in Salisbury Ct. With 5 good days of practice since their return back to campus the team was rested and healthy – eager to get things started up again. On this day we had 2 players get game action in the net for the first time this season. Jack Vergamini approached his coaches before getting on the bus that would take the team to Salisbury and let them know he has had some goalie playing experience and wouldn’t mind stepping back in the net. He eventually would start the game against Salisbury and play one-half the game allowing only 2 goals. Then Sawyer Johnson took over the goaltending duties for the second half of the game and he allowed just one goal against while making several key saves. These two deserve lots of credit and kudos from their teammates for their efforts on the afternoon. Salisbury won the day with a 3-0 defeat of Big Green.
Scoring goals continues to be this year’s team’s Achilles heel. Against the stronger teams on our schedule we have not been producing enough offense to support the good defensive play we’ve been seeing all season. This game was no different. Credit to Salisbury for playing hard and creating good chances for themselves. On offense we controlled the puck in the offensive end but never gave ourselves those good scoring opportunities.
The coaches were pleased with the effort from the team. This week we are going to figure out ways to generate more scoring chances and look for the combinations that will help make this happen. Next up on Saturday the team will travel to Andover and face yet another strong opponent. Stay tuned!
