Boys JV Hockey write-up for Cushing Varsity B 1/29/25
The Boys JV hockey team travelled up to Ashburnham on Wednesday to take on the Cushing Varsity B team. Cushing, with a traditionally deep hockey program, always has a deep and talented team and this year was no exception. The Big Green was prepared to play as they arrived to the arena for the 4:15 game.
Right away Cushing put pressure on their visitors but Drake Esquer was up to the challenge in the net. He kept us in it throughout the afternoon but was needed the most in the early part of the game. After the first period of play came to an end Deerfield was down 0-2.
Going into the game we were short a few defensemen due to illness. Trip Woytowicz, Cooper Lawson and Johan Wilkerson were our three healthy defensemen. Added to those three were converted forwards Brooks Simonds and Luke Donnellan, and these five played hard all game long. In the second period Deerfield got one back when Keller Coleman found the back of the net with an assist going to Mack Dance. After 2 periods of play the score was 1-4 for Cushing.
Thirds period was an up and back affair with both teams getting good scoring opportunities. The final score would be a 4-1 win for Cushing. Saturday the team heads to Hotchkiss to take on the Bearcats. Game time is at 2:00 p.m.
