The boys’ J.V. hockey team went on the road one last time before the Holiday break and this time they travelled to The Berkshire School. Berkshire is new to the schedule and the fit is a good one. Deerfield would lose today 2-1, but the game was well-played and could have gone either way. Drake Esquer was between the pipes for Big Green, and he played his usual solid game. The defensive corps played their opponents tightly, not allowing too many close-range opportunities.
In the end, our offensive drive just wasn’t playing with the cohesion we had hoped for going into the game. Down 2-0 going into the third period Deerfield was determined to climb back in and even the score. Luke Donellan notched his first goal of the season off a loose puck in front of the Berkshire net. Mack Dance, and Ryan Stenzler were effective in their forecheck creating the chance for Luke to score. With the clock ticking down we created several more close chances but the Berkshire defense never lost their composure and kept us from scoring that equalizing goal.
The team goes into the Holiday Break with a record of 3-1. We look forward to the season ahead when we return in January!
