Soccer (Boys): Junior A vs. Loomis Chaffee School (11/06/24 3:00 PM)

Event Details

Deerfield Junior A soccer evened their season record with a strong full-team effort in its rematch against the always-tough, well-coached Loomis squad. After losing two more players to injury this week, leaving over a quarter of its roster unavailable, Thirds welcomed five players promoted from the Junior B team and they helped propel us to a win today. Forward Henry Markcrow ’28 got the scoring started in the 14th minute with a highlight-reel shot from deep outside the 18. The pelicans came back to tie it at 28’ but Deerfield entered the huddle encouraged by how they were playing and committed to upping their focus, passing, and positioning. And that’s exactly what they did, with rookie middies PJ Pirsch and Jasper Gruhl especially effective at regaining position and moving the ball. Deerfield’s bench erupted at 47’ when new addition Jack Keller ’26 crossed the ball up to striker Cole Higgins ’26 who sent it in to give us the lead. Junior B veteran Magnus Selvig ’26 and Rowan Dias ’27 combined at centerback to preserve that lead with help from captain Gershom Munene ’27 and the versatile Kenan Ozada ’28. After a challenging season, Deerfield is not in position to secure a winning season with a victory this weekend down in Wallingford, Connecticut. Beat Choate!
