Hockey, Boys: Junior Varsity ties Choate

Event Details

The boys JV hockey team laced up their skates on Saturday facing arch-rival Choate trying to extend their winning streak to 3 games. The first contest between these two teams occurred back in early December down in Wallingford with Choate winning that game 4-2. The boys in green were excited for the rematch. At the end of the game the score would be a 2-2 tie after an overtime period. Both teams played well and gave an effort worthy of deserving a win.

Alex Leong was our goalie today and he played very well especially late in the game. He was the day’s MVP. The first period was a back and forth game and with 5:00 left in the period Mike Scharfenberger scored a hard-earned goal down low digging out a rebound off a shot from Alex Judelson. Unfortunately, just 18 seconds later Choate would score the equalizer off a broken play at our offensive blue line.

The second period was very similar to the first with both teams raising their intensity level. Bodie Fish would notch a goal with the assist coming from Will Lodge. Again, Choate scored their equalizer under a minute later. The teams would go into the third period in a 2-2 tie.

Both teams dug deep in the third period trying for that game-winning goal. We got tremendous effort from all team members and the team remained focused on playing a disciplined brand of hockey. The game was tightly called and we had to get good man down play from our defensive corp especially late in the contest.

The team has a big week ahead playing Cushing Varsity B on Wednesday and Hotchkiss on Saturday.
