Basketball, Boys: Thirds loses to Cushing Academy

Event Details

On Wednesday, January 22nd, the boys 3rds basketball team hosted Cushing Academy for a late, 4:30 pm tipoff in the Hale Gym. The whole game was a back-and-forth affair and both teams held leads, with Deerfield jumping out to an 8-point lead late in the 1st half. Despite this, Cushing eventually took the lead late and held on for a 49-44 win. It was yet another close loss for Deerfield, dropping the team to a 1-5 record on the season. Deerfield went on a good run towards the end of the 1st half, with Alioune Dia ’22 hitting 2 clutch 3-pointers to aid the cause. Cushing chipped away at the lead and eventually were able to cut it to a 1-point deficit at the break, 23-22. The 2nd half was just as exciting and the game was tied at 39 with less than 4 minutes left. Cushing hit their free throws at the end and were able to withstand a late 4-point play by Tyler Simon ’22 to come away with the 5-point win. Deerfield were led by Tysean Price ’22, the only player in double figures, with 10 points. The boys 3rds team will hit the road on January 25th to visit Eagle Hill for a 3:15 pm tipoff, looking to get another one in the win column.
