Soccer, Girls: Junior Varsity defeats NMH

Event Details

After a short trip to NMH, the Deerfield team was immediately put on the defense against an aggressive Hoggers team, who scored within the first three minutes off a PK kick from the outside. Deerfield struggled to connect passes, and NMH owned the momentum, taking over the midfield. With a collective deep breath, Deerfield came back strong. Emma Tennant ’21 had a shot off the crossbar on a corner, and there were several other chances, before we were finally able to put one home. Kat Hioe ’20 lit up the scoreboard for the Doors first with a PK kick, that was a beautiful high shot over the keeper’s head. Kiki Brainard ’22 followed it up with a near miss off a nice breakaway. NMH wouldn’t go down without a fight, and though Deerfield had some good chances, NMH took it to us in the defensive zone, with some point blank shots saved by Greer Anderson ’22 and some great defensive plays by Lindsay Carey ’23.  Deerfield took this in stride and scored two more, one on a great outside shot by Emma Tennant, and another by Eve Andon ’23 to end the half.

The second half was played in the midfield with some strong back and forth play. Toward the end of the game, with 10 minutes to play, Emma Tennant hit the crossbar, and Kiki Brainard was there for the rebound. Greer Anderson made more great saves, but with three minutes to play, NMH turned on the gas, scoring two late goals to make it a more evenly matched game, of 4-3. Despite the scramble at the end, Deerfield was able to hold on to the win.
