Tennis, Boys: Varsity loses to Cheshire

Event Details

It was another tough battle on the Deerfield courts as the team fell to Cheshire 4-3 on Wednesday in their last regular season match. The team’s 2019 final record (before the post-season tournament) stands at 10-3. This match was also the last home match for seniors Alfi Auersperg, Cosmo Hunt, Jeffrey So, and Alex Alijani. They will be missed and we wish them luck with all the future will bring!

Deerfield won the doubles point with consistent play at #3 (Ji/Bronckers def. Lebowitz/Biller 8-3) and an exciting come-from-behind win at #1. Auersperg/Pathapati were down 5-2 before gaining momentum and winning 8-6 against Kania/Erodula.

Leading 1-0 to start singles play, #6 Cosmo Hunt dominated Nathan Biller to give the team a 2-0 lead. But the top of Cheshire’s lineup were able to defeat our boys giving them the four points needed to clinch the match. #5 Adrian Yao scored Deerfield’s other singles win, beating previously undefeated Jacob Lebowitz 6-3, 7-5. At #4, Eli Ji was almost able to counterattack Kartik Erodula’s aggressive play but ultimately fell 6-3, 3-6, 10-6.

Deerfield has qualified to compete in the post-season tournament starting Saturday, 5/18. Wish us luck as we attempt to win it all!
