Deerfield extended their record to 10-2 on Saturday, 5/11 with a 7-0 win against Exeter with lots of home-team thanks to Family Weekend.
Deerfield won all three doubles contests with #1 Auersperg/Pathapati defeating Kurup/Mangiapane 8-4, #2 Sarachek/Yao defeating Bressel/Sun 8-4, and #3 Ji/Bronckers defeating Tan/Xiao 8-5.
In singles, the top of Deerfield’s lineup cruised to victory while the rest had to battle. #1 Alfi Auersperg beat Alex Mangiapane 6-0, 6-4 and #2 Deepak Pathapati defeated Carsten Bressel 6-2, 6-3. #4 Eli Ji also won handily, beating Adrian Sun 6-2, 6-4. In just his third match of the season, Arthur Yao won his match at #6 against Max Tan 6-4, 6-1.
#3 and #5 singles had the toughest matches of the day, both needing third set superbreakers to win. Playing #5, Adrian Yao outlasted Tony Xiao to win 6-3, 6-7(6), 10-2. And at #3, Achille Sarachek played a similar scoreline with a more dramatic ending to win 6-1, 6-7(5), 12-10 against Vinny Kurup.
Monday’s match against Suffield has been cancelled due to weather. Next up the team will host Chesire on Wednesday, 5/15 for their last regular-season match.
