On one of the wettest game days of the year, DA Varsity Ultimate hosted a 3-team mini-tournament. Teams used D.A.’s beautiful main turf field for all of the games, allowing us to play even when the rains came tumbling down.  The two games we played were quite different from one another, but in both games we practiced a lot of zone defense, and we made great improvement on defense with significant adjustment throughout the day.  The rain made the disk slippery, so coaches were impressed with the number of accurate throws and complete passes.  Players additionally faced swirling wind conditions in the afternoon game against NMH.  They adapted well to those conditions by throwing a surprising number of accurate hucks with the wind at their backs.  Finally, although DA players did not emerge victorious from the challenging afternoon game with NMH, they did achieve the closest game in DA v. NMH Ultimate history.  NMH players gave us not one, but two rounds of high fives at the end of the game.  Two final notes: Coach Sakach went “above and beyond” by taking 20 dripping-wet uniform jerseys to his home to try to dry them in between games, and our loyal fans cheered us on throughout the day.
