Girls Thirds Basketball suffered a heartbreaking loss to Bement today. Despite having only five girls in uniform, Deerfield led at the half, 19-10, thanks in part to the hot shooting of Elena Lu ’22 (10 points at the half) and Ella Mbanefo ‘22 (9 points at the half), in part to the phenomenal rebounding of Ari Lewis-Pugh ’22, and in part to the relentless defense of Jean Jin ’22 and Fernanda Ponce ‘19. However, the lack of subs, coupled with Bement’s intense full court pressure defense, wore down our fatigued girls and allowed Bement to chip away at our lead, finally pulling ahead with a one point lead in the final minute of the game. The final score was 31-32.
