On January 26th, the boys 3rd basketball team hosted Avon Old Farms in the Barn for a rematch of a 43-38 Deerfield win on January 9th. In a high-energy, back and forth game in front of a raucous crowd, Avon came out on top 58-51, dropping Deerfield’s record to 5-4 on the season. Avon jumped right out to a 9-0 lead, but Deerfield fought back to tie the score late in the 1st half. A last-second three-pointer from the corner broke the tie and gave Avon a small lead at half-time. Deerfield surged ahead early in the 2nd half, and the rest of the game was back-and-forth before Avon hit several shots late for the final 7-point margin. David Thomas ’20 took the bulk of the shots and finished with a season-high 27 points, while Jason Hutchinson ’21 added 11. The boys 3rds team will be back in action for one more game before Long Winter Weekend, traveling to local rival Eaglebrook on January 30th for a 4 pm tip.
