Soccer, Boys: Junior B defeats Cushing Academy

Event Details

On Wednesday, November 7th, the boys junior B soccer team traveled to Cushing Academy for the final game of the season, hoping for a win to end at .500 for the season. While it was a sunny and relatively warm day, the field was extremely wet and treacherous after the recent rains. The teams were evenly matched and while there were lots of chances for both teams, fine play by the defenders and keepers kept the match knotted at 0-0 at half-time. The second half was very similar – there was exciting back and forth play and lots of shots on the goal, but no scoring. Just when it seemed the game was going to end in a scoreless tie, a Sultan Lawal ’21 corner kick fell to the feet of Yurok Song ’22 and he put it in the back of the net to give Deerfield a 1-0 lead in the 67th minute. As Cushing desperately attempted to equalize, Max Kainamura ’22 hit the crossbar on a counterattack and time ran out. With the win, the team finishes at .500 for the year with a 5-5-2 record.
