Soccer, Girls: Junior Varsity defeats Exeter

Event Details

The sun was out, the weather was beautiful, and the Deerfield team was back to full strength. It was Exeter family weekend, and their team came out hard, while the Doors suffered from a bit of bus legs, though the bench was very active in pumping up the players. Exeter controlled the temp but DA defense were unstoppable, managing to shut their offensive unit out from all but two shots. Ali Thomas, Kat Hioe, Sarah Wright, Samara Cummings, and Bella Geraci all worked in tandem to frustrate Exeter’s offense. Despite the Exeter efforts, Kikka Giudici was able to dribble past three players and shoot, and Caroline Hoffs hustle to the net allowed her to nab the rebound.

In the second half, Deerfield teams play was highlighted by our strong goalkeeping by Grace Arcoleo who made 20 saves, several 1v1 and even one PK save. Both teams spent a lot of time in the midfield, with Dev Trice, and Morgan Moriarty playing large roles. Our team had renewed energy with the triumphant return of our injured players Liz Tarazi, Emily Stonestreet, and Kiki Brainard. Despite their many shots, Deerfield was able to net two beautiful goals. One was by Dev Trice in on a key PK shot, and the other by Madeline Carey on a perfectly placed cross net shot. Overall Deerfield is back on the up and up and ready to play next week against Andover!
