Event Details

Boys Jr. A Soccer shut out a well-coached Suffield Academy squad on a beautiful Wednesday afternoon. From the kick-off, Deerfield controlled possession of the ball with energetic and careful play from the backline and midfield. Ben King ’22 and Adrian Yao ’20 moved the ball well early, sending it forward to midfielder Nate Zucker ’22 for a long shot, barely saved by the diving Suffield keeper. Deerfield continued to pressure the goal in the first half, with multiple attempts on goal from midfielders Tait Kline ’22, Will Schoelkopf ’21, Tomás Cushman ’22 , Elliot Flagg ’20 and forward Jared Faux ’20. Although Deerfield maintained control of the game, the Suffield defense held the net clear for a 0 – 0 halftime score.

In the second half, however, DA shots began to find the back of the net. Eric Wang ’20 dribbled through the midfield and launched from 5 yards outside the box for a 1- 0 lead. Deerfield didn’t let up, as opportunities from Noah Depp ’21 and Schoelkopf led to a right-side corner. Tait Kline send a gorgeous, arcing shot directly from the corner, the ball sliding past the defender on the post and the keeper behind him to put Deerfield up 2 – 0. Schoelkopf put in two more goals in quick succession, with deft assistance from defender Nasir Barnes ’20 and midfielder Eric Wang. With continued pressure, Flagg sent an arcing cross to Zucker, whose low hard shot ricocheted off the goalie allowing Gale Gai ’22 to tap it in for a 5 – 0 lead. Sam Lauer ’20 followed Flagg’s cross from the right corner with a powerful pass of his own from the same place, allowing Depp to run it in across the goal line. Finally, Kline sent yet one more strong cross from the right corner, and Wang shouldered it past the keeper for the final goal of the match as Deerfield took the win, 7 – 0.
