Soccer, Boys: Junior A defeats Eaglebrook

Event Details

Deerfield Academy Junior A Soccer beat a well-coached Eaglebrook squad 5 – 0 on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. Deerfield started strong, demonstrating good ball movement and vision to dominate possession for the majority of the game. Adrian Yao ’20, Eric Wang ’21, and Tait Kline ’22 sent the ball back and forth, switching the field and moving it up the sideline. Jared Faux ’20 received a nice cross from Elliot Flagg ’20 and juked his way through two defenders for a shot, blocked by the Eaglebrook keeper. A few minutes later, Kline sent a right corner into the box and Wang got his head on it, but the Eaglebrook goalie saved it. Finally, Will Schoelkopf ’21 connected with Connor Olson ’22 at the top right of the box, who rifled a ball into the left side of the net past the outstretched hands of the Eaglebrook keeper to put Deerfield up 1 – 0. Eaglebrook held the line for the remainder of the half, though, preventing shots from Tomás Cushman ’22, Arthur Yao ’20, Faux, and Wang from finding the net. Alex Strait ’20, Arthur, Tommy Leimkuhler ’21, and Ethan Chen ’20 prevented any serious threat on the Deerfield side from leading to an Eaglebrook goal, switching the field as necessary and initiating the offense from the back. After halftime, the floodgates opened and Deerfield scored four straight, dominating possession the entire half. Cushman sent one past the keeper from the top of the box, and just a few moments later a powerful boot by Kline ricocheted off the goalie and was stuffed in by striker Noah Depp ’21. Just a few minutes later, the Deerfield attack would lead to yet another bouncing ball in front of the goal, and Depp would help it on its way for his second goal of the match. Long shots from Connor, Nate Zucker ’22, and Teddy Donahue ’21 went over the net and wide, but forward Gale Gai ‘22 found a stray ball right in front of the goalie on the left side and buried it for DA’s fifth and final goal of the match. Overall, a well-played and dominant half from the Junior A team led Deerfield to victory.
