Tennis, Girls: Varsity defeats Williston

Event Details

Deerfield’s varsity tennis squad brought home another decisive shutout win on Saturday. The team improves to 4-1 at the season’s midpoint. Efficient doubles play and patient, steady singles proved to be the keys to victory on a sunny afternoon in Easthampton. Williston’s brief eight game pro set format meant that the team needed to start fast and stay focused. The closest competition of the day was at first doubles. Ashley and Tori needed a few games to settle in and then volleyed their way to an 8-5 victory. Credit goes to Williston’s pair, taking five games off this veteran Deerfield duo– a very entertaining match from start to finish. Deerfield swept the other doubles competitions. At singles, Big Green performed wonderfully. Winning at all six positions, the team has built up quite a head of steam. We’ll need that momentum with a big week ahead. The team is back on the courts Wednesday, visiting defending NEPSAC champ, Phillips Andover.
