Lacrosse, Girls: Varsity loses to St. Mark’s

Event Details

The Deerfield varsity lacrosse team lost their season opener in a physical battle at the St. Mark’s School.  In true New England fashion, both teams faced not only their opponent but also temperatures in the 40s and steady rain.  Deerfield’s distinguished strength on the day was Defensive cohesion, consistency, and composure – an asset evidenced by holding a potent St. Mark’s offense to only 5 goals in each half.  We were less successful offensively, tallying only 3 goals in each half.  It wasn’t out cleanest game of lacrosse, and one of our primary goals is to reduce midfield and offensive turnovers in upcoming contests.

Our central team theme this year is to “Give More,” and we employ this concept by considering what it means to Give More both in physical exertion as athletes as well as in our mental/emotional efforts to support and encourage teammates.  It is our custom to have the Captains name the “Give More Player of the Day” after every game, and yesterday they named Mary Edmonds as the recipient of this honor for her composure and steadiness on the field.

Thank you to the Norris family for providing post-game pizza and for the oranges, Gatorades, and snacks at half-time.   We’re looking forward to the Middlesex game on Saturday and look forward to seeing many of you there.
