Hockey, Boys: Junior Varsity defeats Eaglebrook School

Event Details

Boys j.v. hockey beat a talented Eaglebrook varsity today 4-2. Earlier in the season this young Eaglebrook team beat our team 5-2, but today we played a solid three periods and got great goaltending from Alex Leong. The game was fast-paced and similar to when these two teams played in December, Deerfield spent way too much time in the penalty box. Give credit to our penalty killers today as we were able to limit Eaglebrook’s chances and come away with a victory.

Deerfield took an early lead in the first period when defenseman Aidan Philip stepped over the blueline, after receiving a pass from Garrett Moe, and rifled a shot past a surprised goalie. Eaglebrook would be next to score later in the first period with a short-handed goal. The score was 1-1 after the first period The second period saw Deerfield build some momentum. The team would score the next two goals. Peter Marchese would score the go ahead goal off a nice pass from Alex Weinman. Minutes later Jake Presnal would score the game winner on a pure hustle play. Alton Machen received a beautiful pass up ice from Matt Gardner. Alton went in on goal alone and made a great move to score. The Eaglebrook goalie made a spectacular save only to have Jake hustle onto the scene and bang home the rebound. Great play, hustle, and instinct to get to the goal! Eaglebrook would never give in and they kept coming at us. Their hard work would pay off and they closed the gap before the end of the period 3-2.

Going in to the third period we knew we had to out hustle Eaglebrook…no small task!

In an up and down period the goaltending on both sides was outstanding. Deerfield goalie Alex Leong had his best game of the season today and he was outstanding in this third period. He didn’t allow a goal giving his team the chance to stretch their lead. Will Dale scored an empty-net goal with under a minute to play to lock the game up for Deerfield.

Next up for the Big Green is Williston on Saturday. The game is at Williston beginning at 2:30. Get there early if you want a ticket to get in!!
