Squash, Boys: Junior Varsity defeats Taft School

Event Details

The Deerfield squad hit the road again on a trip to Watertown to face the Rhinos of Taft.  Both teams came in to the match with momentum and had played strong squash up to this point in the young season.  The top four players on the DA team played exceptional squash, possibly the best I’ve seen at the JV level in a long time!  James, Teddy and Jackson each won 3-0 at #’s 4,3,2 respectively and Drew played some fine squash down at #7 to clinch the match for Deerfield with his 3-1 victory.  Jack and Alex played well but both fell at #5 and #6.  Alfi and Nathan were also victorious in exhibition matches at #8 and #9.  Finally, Arthur Yao played the best squash of his life at #10 against an equally inspired Taft opponent!  All other matches had concluded before their match and the two boys played 5 exceptionally close games in front of a raucous crowd.  Arthur ultimately lost 13-11 in the fifth game but it was a joy to watch how hard the two opponents played and the earnest and sportsmanlike handshake/hug shared after pushing each other to exhaustion.  A great match against a really nice squad from Taft, we wish them the best as they continue their season.  Next up for us, an away match at Andover this Wednesday!
