Soccer, Girls: Reserve loses to Bement

Event Details

The thirds team suffered another unfortunate loss to Bement on Thursday afternoon. A quickly darkening pitch saw great play from the entire team, who brought up the energy in the second half especially. Bement remained the better team and outplayed Deerfield, but the thirds squad can be proud of their conduct and effort throughout the match.

Up top, Kikka Giudici ’20, Whitney Vogt ’20, Griffin Dewey ’20, Sabrina Ticer-Wurr ’21, Hope Smith ’20, and Morgan Clough ’20 hammered on Bement’s defense. Though the group could not outsmart the Bement goalkeeper, it was not for lack of trying, as Deerfield outshot their opponents throughout the second half. In the midfield, Maddie Clough ’20 and Izzy Ortiz ’18 did their best to control the flow of the game and close gaps, helping Deerfield stay aggressive and pressuring Bement all the while. Back on defense, Trish Boonpongmanee ’20, Annabelle Mauri ’18, Taylor Coan ’21, and Catalina Llorente ’19 all did a great job sticking tight to Bement and preventing the most dangerous strikers from shooting on Sydney Bluestein ’21, who was her usual excellent and determined self in the net.

The team looks to put the loss behind them and secure a decisive victory in their rematch against Loomis this coming Wednesday.
