Soccer, Boys: Junior Varsity loses to Taft

Event Details

Boys JV Soccer hosted Taft´s JV in the south division with warm conditions and plenty of sun. Good rivals over many years got going in the later afternoon with styles of play that promised some entertaining action and surely delivered. Taft struck first with a fine goal midway in the first half, the first goal Deerfield had allowed this year, but Taft’s talented team were ready for more. Deerfield responded to equalize and for much of the later first half Deerfield carried the game to Taft. A second goal gave the boys in green the edge heading into halftime; through balls were working pretty well and possession was shared fairly evenly. The second half was a different story as Taft owned the ball and the play; for a time Deerfield’s team defense was well organized and stymied the Taft offense, but later on the green team lost its midfield game and Taft kept coming. An equalizer, then a series of quite desperate defensive measures gave Taft the edge and finally a 3-2 win, well deserved. Gideon Yektai stood tall in goal for the Green against two penalties that could have opened up a bigger win for the Taft boys. Time to get to work on better ball control and systemic defense as we head into the “road warrior” phase of our season. This team has heart and likes its play; it has still to develop as a team unit.
