Tennis, Boys: Junior Varsity defeats Choate

Event Details

On Saturday, the Boys’ JV Tennis team made the trip down I-91 to take on their Wallingford rivals, Choate. After a series of several rainouts, the team was looking forward to getting back on court, and they put together some quality tennis.

The team got off to a blistering start in doubles. The top 3 doubles teams had little trouble with their rivals, as they each gained early breaks of serve and never relinquished their lead. Particularly impressive were Jeffrey So ’19 and Alex Alijani ’19 at the #1 position, where they had little difficulty taking down two varsity players.

Following the doubles sweep, singles produced a few more close battles. First, Alex Alijani ’19 and Eli Ji ’19 were clinical in their matches, each securing victories in two quick sets at positions #4 and #2, respectively. Max Bronckers ’17 soon followed suit, earning a closer two-set victory at #5 to secure the team victory. Elsewhere, Sevrin Sarachek ’17 had a tougher day at #6, falling in straight sets. After winning their first sets, Joni Otto-Bernstein ’17 and Jeffrey So ’19 were pushed to third-set super-breakers. Joni dominated his talented opponent, getting the win at #1. Jeffrey, on the other hand, fell to his opponent at #3. In exhibition play, Skye Bacon ’20 and Jackson Palmer ’19 had close losses in their abbreviated pro-sets. Nevertheless, it was exciting to see Skye back on court, after he had missed the past three weeks due to a hand injury.

When all was said and done, the Big Green headed back to the valley with a strong 5-2 victory. What a great day to be a door!
