Deerfield Falls to Cushing in Overtime

Following a thrilling overtime win on Wednesday over Loomis, the boys varsity hockey team welcomed Cushing Academy to the Barn for a Friday night showdown. After a back and forth first period the score line read 1-0 in favor of Cushing. The lone goal came off a face-off to the left of Senior goalie Sam Vigneault ‘17 who had no chance to make a play on the puck because of the traffic in front of the net. DA came out energized to start the second and found the equalizer on the power play when a missile came flying off the stick of Sophomore Michael Holland ‘19 and found its way into the upper right hand corner of the net. The game would not remain tied for long as Cushing capitalized on a breakaway with six minutes to go in the period, sending the teams into the locker rooms with DA down by one once again. When the teams returned to the ice for the third, Freshman Defenseman Eamon Doheny ‘20 made a great heads up play to score the tying goal. Recognizing that there was space in front of him, he stepped into the zone from the blue line while Senior Thomas Dale ‘17 was working his way around the back of the Cushing net. Dale ‘17 spotted a wide open Doheny’ 20 who hammered the puck home for the first goal in his young Deerfield career. For the second game in a row, DA found themselves headed to overtime with the score tied at two goals apiece. Unfortunately, this time the away side would walk away with the win scoring with less than a minute to play in the 5 minute period. Vigneault played another great game in net, making 34 saves on the night.
