Field Hockey: Reserve defeats Hotchkiss

Event Details

Deerfield faced perennial stronghold Hotchkiss in their second start of the season. From the opening whistle, the game was fast paced from end to end with near misses in front of the goal at both ends. Renee Ballou ’20, Olivia Geraci ’19 and Janice Chen ’20 connected for some amazing passing combinations to get the ball into our attacking circle.  After numerous shots and scoring attempts, Jada Howard ’19 found the back of the net unassisted with 9:15 left in the first half.

The second half saw Hotchkiss turn up the intensity by putting a flurry of pressure on the Big Green defense. Just when it looked like Hotchkiss had broken free in the circle, Emmeline Flagg ’19 came up strong time and time again to put the ball out wide.   Along with Flagg, defenders Saadhya Bahudodda ’20, Cameron Heard ’19 and Renee Ballou ’20 held strong and stopped Hotchkiss from converting on 5 penalty corners.  In the last 10 minutes of the game, the entire Deerfield team dug deep and gave everything they had to hold off a strong Hotchkiss team.
