Deerfield traveled down to Umass on Sunday evening to compete against Commonwealth Academy (Springfield) in the annual Pioneer Valley Tip-off at the Curry Hicks Cage. Deerfield got off to a quick start and seemed poised to be in for a good day, but a tough Commonwealth team hung in there and pulled ahead at the end of the first half. Deerfield couldn’t get into a groove in the second half and had a very tough shooting day. Even though Deerfield outrebounded Commonwealth, the shots just weren’t falling and when the game ended, Deerfield was on the wrong end of the scoreboard. With the Class A Seacoast Tournament at Exeter right around the corner, Deerfield is poised and ready to put the pieces together for a successful run heading into the winter break.
