Soccer, Girls: Reserve defeats Westminster

Event Details

The freezing drizzle seemed to only harden Deerfield’s determination to win at an away contest on Westminster’s pitch Saturday. Deerfield took the field with a deeper bench than usual and immediately brought the pressure. Their hard work paid off in an 8-0 victory in which four players had a taste of the goal, assisted by many other members of the team. Highlights included: Katie Parker ’19 scoring once, again, and then again, including one cross off a perfect corner setup from Jordan Manning ’19, then deciding that a hat trick was not enough and she wanted another goal; Whitney Vogt’s ’19 aim proving true and fair as she buried not one but two shots in the net and left Westy’s goalie stunned; Hope Smith ’20 notching the first goal of her soccer career when a shot from Parker bounced off her shin and into the goal; and Maggie Tydings ’20 beginning her scoring for the season when she beat a Westy defender and took a shot on net. Chelsea Egu ’19 was a star in the back line, holding Westminster to the midline for the entire game, and Grace Knight ’20 gave it her all at forward and mid, refusing to concede a single ball to wayward Westminster players. The skies opened up and poured in celebration as Deerfield headed back to the valley, flush with victory and energized for their rematch against Bement on Monday.
