Two Late Brunswick Goals Cost DA a Win on the Road, Hold on for the Tie

The DA boys varsity soccer team made one of their longest road trips of the season, travelling to Greenwich, CT to face off against a solid Brunswick team that was looking to bounce back after a loss to Loomis on Wednesday. It was a perfect fall day with temperatures in the high 60s and a slight breeze blowing across the pitch.

For the first thirty-five minutes neither team had much to show for as both squads possessed well but had few scoring chances. That was until George Fair ’17 buried a hard driven ball into the bottom right corner of the net from twenty-five yards out, stunning the Brunswick keeper. Fair’s fifth goal of the season seemed to ignite the big green as the ball once again found the striker’s foot at the top of the box. Making no mistake, Fair scored his second goal in as many minutes, giving DA a 2-0 lead heading into the half.

For the majority of the second half, the big green was able to hold Brunswick off the score sheet. Unfortunately, for the second game in a row we gave up a penalty in the final minutes, allowing a very talented #10 on Brunswick to score his first of the game. Keeper Tim Gerber ’17 guessed correctly and nearly got his fingers to the ball. Holding onto a 2-1 lead with five minutes to go, #10 made DA pay once again my lofting the ball over our backline and into the goal from just 18 yards out.

The game would end in a 2-2 tie with players of the game going to George Fair ’17 and Brunswick’s #10 who both scored two goals. After four games, Deerfield has earned three wins and a tie and is eager to take on Taft in Watertown, CT on Wednesday.
