Having played solid hockey in their past few games, Deerfield was determined to end their season on a high note. After honoring our four seniors before the game, we were perhaps a little too nervous at the start, as Loomis kept us on our heels for stretches in the first period. The second period was a much different story, however, as we found our legs, established our forecheck, and began to execute in the offensive zone. Meghan Halloran ’17 had several good chances, Katherine Jackson ’15 was flying all over the ice, and Elliot Gilbert ’16 stepped up yet again to give us some key shifts, but we could not find the back of the net. The third period was a back and forth affair, with both teams earning power play opportunities, but it was Loomis who capitalized with less than three minutes to go when they managed to tip a point shot by a screened Emily Yue ’16. It was a frustrating way to end the season, as yet again we came up short despite playing a solid all-around game, but the team was proud of its effort. All four seniors had excellent games: Maryanne Iodice ’14 and Kylie Davis ’14 both played solid defense while also generating some offense from the point, Kayla O’Connor ’14 had her typical strong effort with great possession offensively and smart play in her own zone, while Devinne Cullinane ’14 was all over the ice as per usual, using her speed to create havoc for her opponents. These four seniors have been outstanding all season long, and will be dearly missed next year. Yue had a very good game in goal, including a fantastic save in the second period to keep the game scoreless. Many thanks to the Iodices for the world-famous lasagna and to the Hallorans for the candy! We look forward to next season!
