After a hard-fought game the night before, the Big Green knew they would have to dig deep on Saturday afternoon at home against Hotchkiss. We played an excellent first period, dominating the possession game and getting on the board first when Devinne Cullinane ’14 sniped a shot over the Hotchkiss goalie off of passes from Katherine Jackson ’15 and Annabel Nottebohm ’17. The second frame was more even, and though Hotchkiss definitely picked up their pace, neither team really generated any sustained offense. The visitors were able to tie the game, however, when a Hotchkiss player fired the puck on goal on a 1 vs. 1 and then beat her defender to the rebound. The third period was a back and forth affair, and though we were certainly feeling the effects of last night’s game, we continued to forecheck hard and cycle the puck well. Despite some excellent chances, including great work on the power play from Maryanne Iodice ’14, Katherine Goguen ’16, Jackson, Kayla O’Connor ’14, and Meghan Halloran ’17, Hotchkiss got the only goal of the period when a shot from the outside eluded a screened Emily Yue ’16. Yue played very well in goal with 26 saves, while Deerfield fired 24 shots on the Hotchkiss goal. Though it was a frustrating weekend from a win/loss perspective, this team is playing solid hockey and looks forward to taking on a strong Williston squad on the road on Wednesday. Thank you to the Nottebohms for the pizza and treats after the game, and to the Wenners family for the cupcakes!
