Ryan Tyree brings a wealth of experience and success to Deerfield’s squash program. Before joining the Academy, Ryan honed his coaching skills at Eaglebrook School and Williston Northampton School, where he led the boys’ squash team to a U.S. Squash Division VI National Championship. Starting in 2010 Ryan’s commitment to squash was further enhanced through the guidance and mentoring of legendary coach Paul Assaiante, whose knowledge of the game and expertise with team building have greatly impacted Ryan’s approach to coaching.
Most recently, as the inaugural Director of Squash at Mercersburg Academy in 2019, Ryan elevated both the boys’ and girls’ programs. The girls’ team secured a Division IV national championship in 2022 and competed alongside Division II schools like Middlesex, Choate, and Exeter in the 2023 tournament, while the boys’ team progressed from competing in Division V to Division I over the course of 3 seasons.
Beyond the court, Ryan is an accomplished English educator, holding a master’s degree in secondary education, and in English literature from Middlebury College, where he was twice awarded the Robert Haiduke Poetry Prize. He resides in Stebbins with his wife, Haley, and their two children, Holden and Aderyn.
