Pedro joined the Deerfield community in the fall of 2025 as an Economics teacher and squash coach.
Pedro was born and raised in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. Throughout his playing career, he represented the Brazilian national squash team at events including South American and Pan American tournaments, as well as two World Junior Championships.
Pedro competed collegiately at Franklin & Marshall College, where he studied Economics and Italian while helping his team achieve three consecutive top 8 finishes at CSA Nationals, including a top 4 finish during the 2013-2014 season. At F&M, he served as team captain and earned four CSA scholar-athlete awards. He also mentored young athletes from underprivileged backgrounds through the Squash Aces program.
After college he stayed involved with squash by playing recreationally, coaching within the Pioneer Valley, including at Mount Holyoke College, and refereeing for US Squash for several years.
Pedro holds a master’s degree in economics from UMASS-Amherst, focusing his studies on the political economy of big data. At Deerfield, Pedro teaches Economics, History of Capitalism, and Spring elective courses that include Behavioral Economics and Ecological Economics. He lives on campus with his wife, Emily. In his free time, he enjoys playing all kinds of racquet sports and spending time outdoors.
