Byrd ’18 rejoined the Big Green in the Winter of 2024, currently, he serves as an assistant football coach and works primarily in the Advancement Office. A proud alumnus, Byrd first joined the Big Green as a postgraduate. During his time as a student, he served as captain of the football team and received the Frank Dahowski Award for outstanding character and leadership. His Deerfield experience left a lasting impact and helped shape the educator and mentor he is today.
Upon graduation, Byrd continued his football career collegiately at Sacred Heart University, where he completed his MBA in 2024 while simultaneously playing Division I football and working as a graduate assistant in the Advancement Office. A standout student-athlete, Byrd made history as the first-ever four-time captain in Sacred Heart football history. He led the Pioneers to three NEC Championships (2018, 2020, 2021), two NCAA Playoff appearances, and earned numerous individual honors including First Team All-Conference (2022, 2023), Second Team All-Conference (2021), and First Team All-New England Linebacker (2023). He was also a two-time NCSA All-American (2021, 2022), Dean’s List student, and the recipient of the Lucy Cox Alumni Recognition Award in 2022.
Beyond the field, Byrd is deeply engaged in the campus and broader community. Recently, he served as the keynote speaker at the Pioneer Scholarship Gala and was featured on Season 2 of The College Tour on Amazon Prime. His passion for leadership, storytelling, and service is at the heart of his work with student-athletes and alumni alike, and he is excited to be back at Deerfield helping to build and mentor the next generation of Big Green football players.
