HEADlines: Quietness

Margarita Curtis – November 10, 2011

In response to my fall letter to the community, where I highlight our strong sense of place and ubuntu, a member of the Class of 1975 reflects lyrically on the richest gift he received at Deerfield. In our fast-paced, task-filled lives, we would do well to reconnect with this “sense of absolute Quietness ” of which he speaks: “ For now, with the condition of the earth and human race, it may be the most important part of the Deerfield experience. As our future generation considers their service to others and the interconnectedness of our globe, there is a need to sit back, filter out the noise, and let the Quietness inform them. As they let go of the obsession with the material world and empirical thinking, this nameless intelligence that links us all may reveal in the depth of our heart who we are and what we shall be.”
