Noel Rubinton ’73 writes: I had a wonderful two-day visit to Deerfield in February. I spoke to students and faculty about the work of John McPhee ’49 and my Looking for a Story: A Complete Guide to the Writings of John McPhee, which Princeton University Press published in 2025. I also had a chance to visit the terrific English class of Justin Romick, and he even let me assign some McPhee readings to discuss, including his great essay on Structure. It was a lively session. I also met with many current editors and writers of The Scroll who are doing an excellent job, and with some current Jewish students, and heard about how the school has made huge strides in becoming more welcoming and inclusive. And I taped a podcast with John Austin. It was extraordinary to be on campus while in session. It is a place transformed since our time, but also happily, it shares the culture and core values that have made the school so remarkable.
