Dr. Fredric Meyer, Enterprise Chair of Neurologic Surgery, has been selected as the new Juanita Kious Waugh Executive Dean for Education as well as Dean of Mayo Medical School. Dr. Meyer will develop the vision and strategies for Mayo Clinic’s educational endeavors across all Mayo sites and provide direction and oversight for all five schools, services and academic support units within Mayo Clinic College of Medicine. Dr. Meyer brings a wealth of educational and leadership experience to his new role. He is the Alfred Uihlein Family Professor of Neurologic Surgery within the College of Medicine and has been named Teacher of the Year 14 times. In 2011, he received the Distinguished Educator Award – Mayo’s highest honor in Education. He has served as program director of the Neurologic Surgery Program at Mayo School of Graduate Medical Education and held faculty privileges in clinical and translational research at Mayo Graduate School. Among his many national commitments, he is a past member of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), Past President American Academy of Neurological Surgery and Past Chair of the American Board of Neurological Surgery . He currently serves as the Executive Director of the American Board of Neurological Surgery (ABNS). Dr. Meyer completed his residency at Mayo School of Graduate Medical Education and joined Mayo Clinic as a consultant in the Department of Neurosurgery in 1987. He served as chair of the Department of Neurosurgery (Rochester) from 2004 to 2015. In 2014, he was named the enterprise chair of the Department of Neurosurgery and will continue in that role.
