Sheryl grew up in Iowa and graduated from St. Olaf College with a major in mathematics and a minor in Asian Studies in 1983. After college she spent two years in the Peace Corps in Kenya. She then taught at the Darrow School in New Lebanon, NY, and earned a master’s degree in Mathematics Education at SUNY Albany. Sheryl has taught mathematics at Deerfield since 1989. She holds the Helen Childs Boyden chair for teaching.
Sheryl leads a community service project to the Dominican Republic each year through the organization Cambiando Vidas, where the team builds an entire house, complete with running water and electricity, in five days. Sheryl has two children, Justin and Angela.
