Errands & Entertainment
Whether it’s grabbing a snack, shipping a package, or doing laundry, we’ve tried to make “the little things” easy to accomplish for our students. Below is a brief overview of some of the student services on and near campus. Be sure to see our list of local attractions and services as well as our guide to local dining.
Food and Sundries
While most student needs are fulfilled by Deerfield’s on-campus stores, off-campus sources can provide some variety as well. Nearby establishments include Savages Market, Richardson’s Candy, and the Williams Sugar House.
Savages Market provides ice cream, snacks, groceries, and a deli. Richardson’s sells ice cream, candies, and small gifts. During maple sugaring season, the Williams Sugar House offers pancakes and breakfast featuring maple products harvested from campus. All three locations are within walking distance of school, approximately 1/2 mile south of campus on Routes 5 & 10.
If students wish to order out, the following restaurants deliver food to the campus in front of the Main School Building. Please note that deliveries may not be made during study hours:
- Domino’s: 774-7291
- China Gourmet: 774-2299
- Goodies: 772-2586
- The Wok: 774-3606
Although students may be far away from home, birthdays are still special. Cakes & cookies can be ordered online through the Dining Hall.
Postal Mail, Shipping, and Faxing
Each student is assigned an individual mailbox in the student mailroom in the main level of the gymnasium. Mail to students should be addressed as follows, and please note that ONLY 1st class mail will be forwarded over the summer:
Student Name, Deerfield Academy
PO Box 298
7 Boyden Lane
Deerfield, MA 01342
Shipping and Receiving, located downstairs in the Physical Plant building, manages packages for the entire Deerfield community. Packages may be picked up during the class day Monday through Friday and on Saturday until noon. Students receiving packages are notified by email. Please note our shipping address.
Students may use the fax in the mailroom located on the bottom level of the Main School Building. The number is 413-772-1100. If you send a fax at that number, it must have a cover page. Incoming faxes are placed in student mailboxes.
Laundry and Dry Cleaning
Each dorm and the basement of the Health Center has coin-operated washers and dryers for students. In addition, E. & R. Laundry and Dry Cleaners offer service to students. Get more information and register at TheCampusLaundry.com. Once there, type in Deerfield’s password, AW23. You will then see an order form and description of the services available to students. You may also call E. & R. at 800-890-7273 inside the USA or 603-627-7661 outside the USA. They are available from 8:00 am – 6:00 pm EST, Monday through Friday, to answer your questions and/or take your order over the phone.
Laundry bags are picked up in the dorms on Monday morning and returned to the basement of the Health Center on Thursday morning. Students are responsible for their own pillow and bedding. If needed, towels, two sheets, a pillowcase, and a laundry bag may be picked up at the Laundry Room. At the end of the school year, all issued items must be returned to avoid replacement charges.
Deerfield’s Finance Office can provide assistance for students who are interested in opening up a checking account. To establish an account (at Greenfield Co-Operative Bank) students need a picture ID and one other form of identification.
Student Storage Options
Most dorm basements have areas to store boxes and suitcases during the school year. Summer storage is available, but very limited and must be approved by the Dean of Students. Hours when students may bring items to storage before summer vacation will be announced towards the end of the year. Many students also use local storage facilities. These storage companies will pick up students’ belongings during the last week of school and arrange for return of the items at the beginning of the next school year.
Sitterly Storage of South Deerfield: 800-533-1171
Sitterly Storage will have trucks and movers on campus for full service (by appointment). They will perform a written inventory of what is being stored and distribute a receipt. They will hold and perform care and custody of the personal items being stored at their warehouse in South Deerfield until school re-opens in the fall, when they will deliver items to the students’ rooms.
Boomerang Storage: 413-586-2666
Boomerang Storage provides free boxes to all registered students. You may pick up boxes in front of the MSB on May 22, 1pm-5pm. They will pick up items for storage in your room and deliver them to your new room before you return to school.
We do not store student couches or stuffed chairs for the summer.
Movies and Theaters
The local communities of Greenfield, Northampton, Hadley, and Amherst offer numerous entertainment options, including cinema:
