Class of 1955

Dudley A. Ferrari ’55

Our 3-letter man, Dudley Ferrari ’55, and his wife, Kathy, now enjoy living in Naples, FL, near the Big Cypress National Preserve, where he can work on his golf game year round. He wishes, however, that his golf handicap would “go down as quickly as the days go by”. Dudley and Kathy enjoy visiting with [...]

Our Boyden Society Captain

I chatted with Eddie Dick ’55, our Boyden Society Captain, this afternoon, 9/25/2012. He had just returned from a meeting with Terry O’Toole ’02, Deerfield’s 50th Reunion Capital Gifts Officer. The Frank L. and Helen Childs Boyden Society honors and recognizes those individuals who provide for Deerfield through bequests, trusts, or other planned gifts. Eddie [...]

Our Drive-By Publisher

Joe Bete ’55 says that he leads a pretty ordinary life. Not! He lives in Deerfield and was at the helm of The Channing Bete Company for 28 years between 1967 and 1995. The company is located in South Deerfield, and currently employs 230 employees in the community. Two of his sons, Michael ’79, and [...]

A Marathon in Paradise

Nancy Crawford writes: “Aloha, I just had to write and brag a little about Tom. He took first place in his age division yesterday (Sept. 2, 2012) in the Kauai Half Marathon. This picture was taken of him with his trophy, actually a wonderful, ceramic plate. He is very proud and so am I. He [...]

’55ers Pony, Mark, and Jerry ..

Pony Duke and Mark Rowland couldn’t meet in London this Spring for a trip to Russia due to mutual nuisances of growing older. Pony remains in good spirits, however, and looks forward to seeing Mark at his ranch in Absarokee, MT, on his way back to Anchorage, AK. Perhaps he’ll negotiate a ride with our [...]

Mike Grant ’55

It is with sadness to relate that Mike and Betsy Grant have lost their son, Michael, due to a cerebral hemorrhage at age 39. Michael lived in Los Angeles and was a talented “actor, vocalist, songwriter, lyricist and sports fan.” He also leaves behind his brothers, Luke ’87 and Andrew ‘85 , and sister, Bettina. [...]

A Shining Evolution

Congratulations to David Thiel ’91, Jessica Day, Brent Hale and the staff at Deerfield Magazine for its new eye-appealing format and mind-stimulating content. This innovative team has also constructed a new Class Notes website, http://deerfield.edu/tag/class-of-1955/ , in which we can read notes recently posted by our classmates months before they appear in the Deerfield Magazine. [...]

Building Relationships

In the Spring 2012 issue of Deerfield Magazine there is an article in which Art Dwight ’79 dwelled on an English professor’s comment that seeds of “the philosophical basis for your existence” are sown before age 21. The professor’s statement is engendered in the reflective thoughts of Brad Butz ’79, Colonel, USAF, in Kandahar, Afghanistan, [...]

Leading role

Brady Coleman, ’55, has a leading role in the currently showing film, “Bernie”, starring Jack Black, Shirley MacLaine and Matthew McConaughey. It’s a dark comedy taking place in a small Texas town – very funny. Jack Black shines. Brady Coleman Class of 1955

In Remembrance of Mark Ewing

Bill (Moose) Morton sadly relates: “Our Classmate, Mark Ewing, passed away due to a bout with cancer on May 8th at home in Hanover, New Hampshire . There was a lovely memorial service for Mark on Saturday, May 26th, at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Hanover….. In addition to his family: his wife Mikie, two [...]
